The "Banana Diet" for celiacs from the 1950's consisted, as far as I remember,
of bananas, cottage cheese, and "scraped beef".  I believe the later was lean
beef with all the fat scraped off of it.  I remember eating bananas with mayo
and nuts on top, and cottage cheese with bananas, mayo and pineapple etc.  And
after nothing much else for 5 or 6 years between the ages of 2 and 8, I still
love both bananas and cottage cheese!

And I guess that back then the mayo didn't have modified food starch as an
ingredient.
