Hi Everyone,

Thank you for all of your replies regarding my query into visiting the
dentist.

I had about 20 responses and a few requests for a summary.

Three people said they have never had any problems after dental visits
and did not list any precautions that we should take.

Four people said to ask the dentist/dental hygenist/dental assistant to
wear powered gloves because the powder may contain wheat starch or
flour.

Four people said to use cleaning paste or pumice without any flavouring
as the flavouring may contain some gluten contamination.

Two people recommended avoiding the fluoride treatment because it may
contain gluten.

One person said avoid the mouthwash.

Another person said to avoid floss.

Two people generically answered, yes it may be a problem and to discuss
it with the dentist.

I have since gone to get my teeth cleaned, I asked the hygenist to wear
powder free gloves and told her I was celiac. She marked it on my chart
to wear unpowdered gloves and highlighted it. As for the rest, I had
the full treatment, pumice, fluoride with desensitizer and floss
flavoured with mint. I did not have any kind of reaction. I wish I had
been a little bit more demanding about the ingredients of the pumice and
fluoride and floss but did not have any trouble.

One thing I find inconvenient is the lack of ingredient info on
toothpastes, flosses and mouthwashes.

Thanks again,

I hope this summary is useful to others.

Gillian
