For 6 months I have been having problems with loose bowels, gas,
occasional stomach pain. Normally I am constipated. The first time I
had problems was a couple of years ago when I was taking metformin. The
metformin just about destroyed my stomach so I gave it up and reduced
the sugar and starch in my diet. I am generally careful about gluten
but occasionally eat out. I ask alot of questions and try to avoid
things that are questionable as best I can.

I have been under ALOT of stress caring for my elderly difficult mother,
helping my celiac college daughter, and my husband has a job transfer
hanging over his head since September which has yet to be resolved. My
TTG test is less than 3. I think the scale for the test says over 5 is
positive. I have had some improvement by eliminating dairy products,
and taking lecithin when I am going to have fat in the meal. I have
asked the gastro who is hot to do a colonoscopy about cultures, lactose
intolerance and gallbladder problems (which several relatives have). He
is adamant I need a colonoscopy WITH BIOPSIES. They want me to use a
prep called MOOVY Prep.

I am not crazy about the scope because they are cold sterilized, and I
am pretty much opposed to biopsies before they even know if there is a
reason.

Are biopsies call for in a situation like this?

Thanks for your thoughts; I will summarize.
