Hello,
I just read the summary of "Breastfeeding an infant celiac" and was
disappointed to hear that gluten was detected in breastmilk. I was not
aware of that and thank you to whoever cited the journal articles.
It's nice to see scientific research on the subject.

But here is MY question:
My 2 1/2 yr. old was breastfed for the first 12 mos. Between 12 and
18 mos. she was failing to thrive and was diagnosed with CD at age
18mos. We had never heard of CD before this time and decided to
get tested ourselves. My husband's test results were positive, despite
him never having any symptoms. My test results were negative, so I
continue to eat some gluten, but most of our meals are GF for
simplicity sake.

Now we have a 5 mos. old daughter who I again plan on breastfeeding for
the first year. But I'm still eating some gluten and I have no
indication that she has CD. She has not started solid foods yet.
When should I have her tested? My gastroenterologist (U. of Maryland)
suggested around 12 mos.
Does anybody else have suggestions?
Thanks,
Susie in Maryland
