There was a piece in celiac.com about the National Institute of
Health (NIH) being at risk of losing some funding in the 2006 budget.
I was curious about the outcome so I inquired at the NIH.
According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and
Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), a part of the NIH, here is the breakdown:
NIH.... $28,155,126,000.00 (2005)
NIH.... $28,151,228,000.00 (2006)
a decrease of 3.89 million (.013%)
NIDDK.... $1,713,584,000.00 (2005)
NIDDK.... $1,704,925,000.00 (2006)
a decrease of 8.64 million (.5%)
the NIH does receive an annual appropriation of 150 million towards
Type 1 Diabetes that is in effect through 2008
