Dear Listmates -
I have noticed some posts, over time, that assume we
all get diarrhea as a gluten reaction.
40% of Celiacs don't get diarrhea as a symptom. One
doctor I went to said he read somewhere it is more like
50%.
When I was diagnosed 6 years ago, I had first spent 4
months dealing with a doctor at Loyola who completely
missed the diagnosis, because he was looking for diarrhea
and I didn't have it.
When I finally went to a local gastroenterologist on my own,
who was more familiar with Celiac Disease. he knew that I
could have Celiac Disease without diarrhea, and he did the
endoscopy and sent the tissue samples to a pathologist familiar
with Celiac Disease, and I was finally diagnosed correctly.
I had been mis-diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome for
ten years before I was diagnosed correctly, also.
Vicki
