<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>>

There have recently been several cases of a particular product's
supposedly non-GF status being posted on the list without a source for
verification of the claim. Follow-up phone calls have determined that
the company vigorously disputes this characterization and there are no
facts to dispute the company's claim.

One of the main benefits of this list is that celiacs can share their
knowledge on maintaining a GF diets. On the other hand, spreading
information which is not well-founded can cause confusion, distress, and
lack of creditability.

Therefore, before making such a post, please be sure that you document your
sources! Don't make a claim that an item is, or is not, gluten free
without a references. When you do post it for the group to read, please
include:

1. Any know facts describing the contamination.
2. The product description and applicable country
3. The person stating these facts, their title, and a phone number
4. The date of this information

When symptoms are used to remove or add a product in your personal GF
diet, avoid using the terms that reflect its toxicity or lack of toxicity.
Just state that you avoid or use the product based upon symptoms and
ingredient documentation is not available. Label ingredients can be used to
support your assumptions.

Anyone desiring to continue this discusion may send an email to Mike Jones
