Hi Kyle,

>Trisha, sorry about your experiences with the masses.

Thanks Kyle!!I guess part of it must be the time of the year! I didn't
work part-time last year at Christmas so I have forgotten - the Christmas
mania. I do however make it a point to be extra nice to the people who wait
on me - waiting patiently and smiling at them. I have the nicest things
happen - I was looking at some earring at an independent vendor at the mall
on my break and ask if he had any non post earings - becasue Amber can't do
those yet so I keep her the earring with just the wires going thru. He say -
will its no my table it a friends but let look as she has stepped out - and
of course the poor guys knows nothing about earings - so he still showing
the all the wrong stuff - so I explained about Amber only haveing reallly
good use of one hand and I drew a picture of what I was looking for and
continued - the man ask about about Amber and I answered his questons and he
what she like and I said 13 year old stuff - boys, friemds music and my eye
fell on a cat tile and I said and she loves - I just got a her kitten. Well
he took one of his tileswith a cat on it and said it was free a gift for her
for being brave. I said thank-you and went back to work - really happy -
when people are nice like that for no reason - it kind gives you back your
faith in people. What they give is not as important as the pure kindness
they show. The next weekend I went back and told him how much Amber enjoyed
the tile - I thought it was important for him to know that she appreciated
and enjoyed and his wife was there and rolled her eyes when he filled her in
all becasue he wanted to nice to a little girl who he preceived had a little
harder time than others.

>Christmas just sucks, don't it? Well, that's what happens when we ain't
>got no dang meta-narrative.

What do you mean by meta-narrative? this isn't a term I have before. Of
course silly me thought PWD meant power wheelchair drivers and I was always
confused why they where feeling more descrimated agianst than others - Okay
you guys can quit laughing now!!!

>Too bad civility becomes an individual
>construct and not something our Daddies and Mommas didn't whup >into our
backsides years back. That, of course, is making the >supposition that our
parents punished us for discipline's (read learning) >sake and not just
because they were mad and wanted a defenseless >kid to pound on (seems to be
the experiential norm in this group).

You know I am not sure manners are something you can whip into someone. I
suspect being a good example and being patient and correcting when they make
boo-boos works. Amber is fairly polite and this is what I did.

>As far as your "gentleman" being upset about his being diss'ed in front >of
his nephew, hmmm, seems to me that respect is not an inalienable >right.
Boy, Howdy! Aren't we as a culture hung up on our rights, too? >Never mind
the responsibilities that go along with it.

Inalienable rights ..... oh I know those they are in the constitution
right? The ones that say we are have the right to life, liberty and the
pursuit of happiness? Maybe that's covered under the pursuit of happiness -
getting what you want - when you want and how you want. GRIN

>Let's face it, Westerners are soft. We've got the time to be worried
>about our "rights". After all, not many of us are looking to see if we
>have enough rice or millet for our families to make it through another
>day. Let's see...which Pokemon character is supposed to take care of >that
one?

      Ohhhhhhhh.................I don't know a thing about Pokemon's. I am
glad you said because when I have said similair things folks come back - I
am not being but you know - I emember being little and living in the refugee
home and never having enough to eat or being warm and being a rag muffin
that hustled GI's for candy bars and quarters. Blessed Be for the GI's - you
guys keep the hungry kids alive!! To this day I enjoy the simple things -
not being hungry, having a warm house, not having to worry about someone
bigger taking my food. As sillly as it may seem - there are times I just
sit on my sofa and enjoy existing becasue it is so nice now. I think when
you don't have something and then you get something - it never becomes
common place. I was driving a Cadillac - mind you she is 22 years old now
hasn't had heat, nor air conditioning nor many other items for many years
and people keep saying I must be so let down that my new car is an Escort -
And Amber and I are so glad we have a new car with heat in the winter - air
in the summer, one that runs on cold and hot days. I thought I was being
strange being happy with the car so I ran the statement by Amber and she
said the same thing. I think maybe if we grow with stuff we accept it as the
norm and don't see its value, it is just the way it is. Its been a long time
since we have been hungry but my Mom has three refrigerators stuffed with
food and cabinets overflowing with food stuffs - once when we moved I packed
up the kitchen - I packed up 25 boxes of jello - Papa teases Mama about the
25 boxes to this day - but you know he never says she can't have them, in
fact if 30 boxes made her happy - he would get them for her. When things
really get to me - I remember what it was like and that there are still
people in the world who live like that. I guess I whine somedays to
.................... I have gotten spoiled - a little. Big Happy Grin!!

As it must be plain to see I have gotten a little rest to - last week I
worked 66 hours - I think I may have lost a little be of my sense of humor.
The manager didn't hire another person part-time he just doublled my hours.
I am not sure why he thinks I can work from the day after thanksgiving until
Christnmas without a day off, and some of them be 13 an 14 hours when I do
both jobs. So yesterday I ended up with a migraine and had to call in sick.
Even with that I will have a 65 hour week , and I was suppose to feel bad
becasue my not coming in meant he had to work an extra 4 hours!!
