Most people who see me on the street view me as defective. They ignore the
name plate on the back of my wheelchair the says:

"Bob Segalman, Ph.D., Sc.D. (Hon.) - the only American with cerebral
palsy known to hold two doctorates"

- Bob

Well, I don't consider myself a "defect," either (or else I'd be sitting
at home doing nothing, like a lump) but unfortunately AB people think we
are. :( Hell, I know plenty of deaf/HOH people who don't want to
identify themselves as disabled because they don't want to be seen as
defective - of course that means they don't wear the hearing aids or
cochlear implant processors that could help them so much.

You really stirred up some hornets with this one! ;)
