"A look at archival films showing scenes from the period of rubble
removal and subsequent rebuilding of Warsaw is an excellent argument in
favour of the concept of public participation. Can there be any better
example of a more direct participation in the revitalization of historic
monuments than a picture presenting the direct participation by Warsaw's
citizens in the removal of rubble from the Old Town by hand, brick by
brick? Their children and grandchildren are by no means a society that
is less mature."
