I would suggest a regular search for books on hospital planning of the time,
but also serial literature:

Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals
Readers Guide to Periodical Literature

both for thematic articles and articles about individual hospitals.  Budget
20 minutes to recover one article.    Should yield several dozen articles worth
investigating, if you go up through WWI years.
