Hi Colin, yah that slide guitar stuff was my buddy Marc when he
was in his early 20's. He was my neighbor, 7 years my junior and
a real rocker. He didn't really play much slide, just on that
recording far as I can remember. We would hang out a lot I guess
because we were neighbors, had a lot of common interests, and
because of our musical interests. Also, he was a real Beetles
freak. I really didn't like the early Beetles stuff, but
certainly grew to like their later work and needless to say, it
has certainly withheld the test of time. Anyway, Marc would come
over and I would turn him on to whatever the latest jazz stuff I
had like Oscar Peterson, Count Basie, Miles Davis, or whatever I
had just gotten. He claims to this day that I have been a big
musical influence on him to broaden his talents from rock into
other genres, His TV and movie stuff would bare this out, not
that I will claim any credit for anything with this guy. He's
just very creative! If I remember, I will tell you the story
about being on this crazy Christmas show Marc was in charge of in
1996 I think, that happened in Hollywood from 6 until 10 Am one
Friday morning just before Christmas. That was the same time as
their regular show so they did a live broadcast during the same
time span. I have a couple of cuts I did playing with his band
on that show and let me tell you, it was a scary thrill to do
that. Anyway, gotta hit the sack now so I can get up and go play
one of those low paying jazz gigs in a bar from 3 to 6 Pm today.
Usually a mild place with few if any issues between patrons.
Regarding the Sideband Baby song, it kind of happened because
somewhat before that time, I had a sideband CB rig and Marc would
hang out while I was yacking it up. Also, we had mutual friends
some of whom were his age in school who were CB-r's then got into
Ham radio. By time we did the recording I was at least a novice
ham and had bought my first rig, that good old Drake TR4C which
was what I used to get the sideband effect. I sure wish I had
held on to that Drakespr4 receiver, it was great and had an Am
quad that would plug into the top that you could use on medium
wave to DX. Oh well, DX is kind of worthless nowadays with all
the repetitive crap on Am and me not having the patience to
listen for ID's. Would rather listen to internet radio on the
Plextalk Pocket, speaking of which, did you ever get one or apply
for it? You really have to do that! Enough from me, talk about
rattling on, on only after one glass of red wine! 73, Jim

Hi, I couldn't help myself after hearing that great song
about the YL.
Here's a link to a song my friend wrote back in the 1970's for a
radio
 shack
contest. He is actually a kind of famous guitar player now just
having
released a CD recorded with Keith Emerson and a symphany
orchestra from
Germany. The album is called the Three Fates. But I digress.
If you do
download the Sideband Baby song, you will hear sideband as part
of the
song. I used my Drake TR4 through a dummy load then received
the signal
 on
a Drake SPR4 which I slightly tuned off frequency to get the
desired
 affect.
Hope you enjoy it. Jim WA6EKS
