Is the Anytone a general coverage receiver? What are it's
frequency limitations and modes? It's mobile right? That means it
doesn't have a self contained battery supply. What are the
dimensions of the radio? I take it that it is a transceiver?
Thanks, Jim

I got it from Ed actually...he sent it to the anytone at588uv
email list.
if you wish to join, it's anytone_at-588uv at yahoogroups .com.

 BTW, when you finish the manual (where'd you find that,
anyway?), I'd be =
 interested in seeing it. If we can work out something with the
menus, =
 which probably wrap, it may still be worth a look. I can
already tell =
 you the software looks like the TYT software, I think all the
Chinese =
 radio companies use the same 12-year-old to write their
software.

 Yeah, Ed says that Anytone is very receptive to feedback. How
that =
 will =3D
 translate into accessibility remains to be seen, but yeah, $275
i a =3D
 helluva price. Ed's going to the electronics fair, so I hope he
tells =
 me =3D
 stuff upon his return.=3D20

 nope, no speech on that particular anytone at588UV mobile.
 I'm working on the manual for that radio; converting it to text
=
 and=3D20
 reformatting.
 But fear not, it's still in the testing stage and from what Ed
at =3D
 Import=3D20
 communications says, the manufacturer is actually quite good at
=3D
 quickly=3D20
 fixing bugs. Which would lead me to believe they can probably
add =3D
 something=3D20
 like voice prompts quickly and without too much difficulty
either on =
 =3D
 this=3D20
 version or later ones.
 So, either the first release, or subsequent versions of the
anytone =3D=

 mobile=3D20
 might have voice output of one kind or another.
 It's still a pretty good price for a dual band 50W mobile with a
=3D
 removable=3D20
 head and cross band repeat even without speech output.
 BTW, it's not shipping yet, and likely won't be until the end of
=3D
 October.
 There is some big chinese electronics convention that is
happening =3D
 first,=3D20
 and then it'll be supposedly ready to ship in quantity.

 I looked on importcommunications.com and see they're talking
about a
 chineese mobile. Looks good, $275, dual band and all, but no =
 mention =3D
 if
 it has speech. I think for the difference though, I'd stick
with my
 Kenwood tmv-71a which I know talks very very well and is a good
rig.  =
 =3D
 I
 may order an ht from them just to have another toy.
