I don't recall the m f j number, but same as the hampros 508 which i 
have.  It is a little basy and lacks highs.  It has a builtin preamp and 
has updown plus the 4 function buttons, as I mentioned in an earlier 
post, works with various radios, depending on cable purchased.  The 
kenwood hand microphone is a good bet, but not sure why, the hand 
microphone does a good job on the 590, but sounds absolutely terrible on 
the 990 which i also have.  I use a turner super sidekick and get good 
reports.
