It's definitely true that the first person you can ask is the student
himself. However, as a late-deafened librarian, I can tell you that the tool
which has given me the most access is e-mail between staff and patrons. If
this student will have e-mail capabilities in his dorm or room, you might
suggest that that is a legitimate way for him to ask his reference
questions, and for staff to respond to him. Good luck...it's nice to see
staff asking what they can do.
