The Center for Rehabilitation Technology - Georgia Tech
History: In 1989, the Georgia Tech Satellite Literacy Program (GTSLP) began
addressing the needs of Georgians with the lowest level of literacy skills
by producing and distributing via satellite a live, interactive broadcast.
The program grew from two receiving sites to nearly 100 and assisted more
than 16,000 adult learners in Georgia with literacy skills improvement.
Over the years, the program has been recognized as an award winning unique
distance learning model. Building upon the program's success and challenged
with the need to broaden the programs reach, the effort was refocused. To
reflect the new vision, the program was renamed Lifelong Learning Network
(LLN) in October 1997, marking an end to the live satellite broadcasts. LLN
continues to receive major support from the Georgia Department of Technical
and Adult Education (DTAE) and supplementary support from the Center for
Rehabilitation Technology, Inc.
The program consists of the following modules:
Videotaped Instructional Supplements
Mobile Computer Lab (The Road Scholar)
Staff Development Training
Research
Interactive Multimedia Tools
Collaboration

Supporting Adult Literacy Through Technology
With unemployment at an alltime low in the United States, educated adults have
a gateway to move from low paying and deadend jobs into the mainstream and
financial independence that all Americans aspire to attain. This applies to
people who are disabled and well as those who live without disabilities.
This is an innovative and proven program. If you have an interest in adult
education, I recommend you look at the Web site or call for more information.
