Dear Wilmot,

It's amazing that you should think that Christmas is threatened of
extinction due to the commercialition you are alluding to. At least
from your response below, you (yourself) are confirming that Xmas is
well and alive. This is illustrated in the high commercialization you
are talking about. But what does religion has to do with it?

We need to distinguish the commercial from the religious. I'm not sure
that the secular business industry's goal is to evangelize customers or
potential patrons. In fact in a CAPITAL society, they have to avoid
being perceived as exclusionary. I'm not even sure that they are
interested in putting "Christ" back in "Christmas. This task is the
role of the Church.

If your concern is a religious one, maybe you need to take on some
other institution, not the business sector. They are doing what they
have to do: MAKE MONEY. Don't blame them if they have mastered their
trade.

The religious concern is really the realm of religious institutions.
Unless a particular business wants to ascribe to a particular religious
dogma, they will do their best to please the majority of their
customers in order to take advantage of the marketing opportunity of
the holiday season. As you have noticed, they use the language that
most people are currently using depending on where they are located.
They take pulse of their demographics. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH
RELIGIOSITY.

Happy Holidays!

--Emilie
