I think Ann's post begs a rebuttal!

The fact that the American Heart Assn, the American Cancer Society,
the American Dietetic Association (to name a few) have come out
against the Atkins diet ought to warn us all. My nutritionist has
shown me reports about how unhealthy this diet is. And the diabetic
diet is much higher in fruits and vegetables and does allow more carbs
than Atkins.

I did that diet when it first came out in the 70s. It was (and still
is) the only time in my life that I had high cholesterol. When I went
off it, the cholesterol quickly went back to normal.

I think anyone who's concerned about cardiac health in particular
should stay away from this diet. I want to be thin -- I want it so
badly I could cry (and have) about it! But I want to be alive and
healthy more.

Just my two cents.

Sally
