Jim,

CD music is almost a "pass through" and has nothing to do with the sound
interface from/with the PC.

#1  Do you have a yellow speaker in the bottom right corner of your screen?
#2  Double click that speaker and make sure that none of the sections
      are muted and that the WAVE section is turned up to at least mid
level.
#3  Go to the device manager and see if there are any yellow triangles for
the sound card.
