  It's pretty unlikely that accumulations of "cruft" or "furch" on individual
machines are slowing the *network* appreciably, except perhaps on heavily-
used servers.  It might be useful to set up a clean/up-to-date install of NOS
and common apps on some central machine and roll that out to individual
machines, but it doesn't sound like there's any need to try and make that all
happen at once.  Replacing HDs is a convenient time to work this in on a
station-by-station basis.
