Just received in the mail the promised items from McCormick Spices after
my call inquiring about the GF status, (especially questioning the
chili powder. They sent me 7 Mexican recipes using their spices.
Additionally they sent me discount coupons and a packet of their GF Taco
Seasoning Packet. The ingredients are listed as: spices (including chili
pepper, cumin, oregano and red pepper) onion, whey solids, salt, sugar,
paprika, garlic, potato starch and citric acid.

She mentioned that the other seasoning packets, ones that are combinations for
quick dinners (not to be confused with their regular spices) are not GF.

The phone number is 1 800-632-5847 and they encourage comments and
questions. Perhaps if many people respond and they realize there is a
market for products that use thickening like potato starch, we might be able to
get more fast food products.

Several other people made the following observation (I have quoted one person)
"I would think the cross-contamination issue would be less for spices,
because they would REALLY have to clean their machines and conveyor belts to
avoid the flavors carrying over from one spice to another. Not so with flours,
cereals, etc, as much."

Good cooking! Carol in NJ
