Dear Susan,

Can your local hunters help you out? I can get almost unlimited elk and
venison from local hunters who really don't eat their own meat. I use "leg
chops" as they are labelled on the package and let them thaw, then slice and
dry them for pemmican, works great. Also, I grind them in the blender rather
than the food processor, it's a lot easier.

I have also found a lot of buffalo suet for a cheap price at Whole Foods,
works great for the suet in pemmican.

The deer and elk should not cost you a cent.

Also, we have almost unlimited wild boar here. Could I use wild boar for
pemmican, anyone? What does the list think of wild boar? I can also get lots
of "pork chops" and "ribs" from wild boar but don't know how to cook them.
Has anyone had them, and are they good? This, Susan, is a wild grass fed
animal that thrives in the hills here. I think it is actually considered a
pest now, it is so plentiful, but I am not sure if it is legal to hunt them,
does anyone know?

Also, how can an urban person become a hunter gatherer, esp if we are not
interested in hawking or shooting? I kind of feel like a gatherer as I spend
almost all my time tracking down "legal" foods.

BTW, does anyone know where I could find fresh duck eggs? My son is allergic
to chicken (factory!) egg proteins. I was also thinking of checking into
ostrich eggs at the local ostrich ranch here. Does anyone have any ideas for
eggs other than chicken?
