My understanding is that in young babies, it is generally an allergy
reaction to foods. It doesn't have to be dairy either. Mine also reacts
the same way to chocolate. In older babies and adults, it can be any
type of allergy reaction. My eczema flares when my inhaled allergies are
on a rampage. I don't know of any food allergies that I have.

Same here. The only difference is that mine spits up too. Even the
slightest trace of dairy will cause her to react - in her diet or mine.
I try to be as careful as possible, but sometimes we take chances on
restaurant foods or things with questionable ingredients.

She's 10 1/2 months and so far we've only found dairy and chocolate that
she reacts to. She seems to do OK with soy, but I put off giving her
that for quite a while to minimize the exposure. She really doesn't like
soy formula, so we're trying some of the soy milks now to see what I'm
going to be able to wean her too in a few months.
