>The recent postings regarding airlines and their "gluten-free" meals made me
feel a warning to any new celiacs might be in order.
>Even though the airlines provide a GF meal if you notify them at least 24
hours ahead, do NOT assume it IS GF!
>Northwest Airlines served me a breakfast with fruit and a Rice Krispie-like
cereal clearly showing malt extract in the ingredients on the box.
>Alaska Airlines has served me a fish fillet coated in corn flakes which I
doubted were malt-extract free and therefore gluten free.
>I always take my trusty rice or popcorn cakes with me on flights, especially
overseas or cross-country flights, for emergency rations.
>A travel option with most U.S. airlines is a lowfat meal which is usually a
salad; or I usually order a fruit plate option which they all have and is
definitely GF!
>I've also noticed that some airlines are now offering cracker mix snacks
instead of peanuts--take your own.
>Hope this helps!
