<<Disclaimer: Verify this information before applying it to your situation.>> >The recent postings regarding airlines and their "gluten-free" meals made me feel a warning to any new celiacs might be in order. >Even though the airlines provide a GF meal if you notify them at least 24 hours ahead, do NOT assume it IS GF! >Northwest Airlines served me a breakfast with fruit and a Rice Krispie-like cereal clearly showing malt extract in the ingredients on the box. >Alaska Airlines has served me a fish fillet coated in corn flakes which I doubted were malt-extract free and therefore gluten free. >I always take my trusty rice or popcorn cakes with me on flights, especially overseas or cross-country flights, for emergency rations. >A travel option with most U.S. airlines is a lowfat meal which is usually a salad; or I usually order a fruit plate option which they all have and is definitely GF! >I've also noticed that some airlines are now offering cracker mix snacks instead of peanuts--take your own. >Hope this helps!
