Michael, Just a note to add on to these thoughts.

I have a friend who's son even reacted to the small amount of gluten in
her breastmilk. Is this extremely rare - as her doctors suggest? - or in
order to provide a guaranteed gluten free diet for infants in the first
two years of life should the mother also be gluten free?

A side thought: If children can react to gluten in breastmilk, what about
the trace amounts of gluten that will be in cow or goat's milk? I know
if I eat wheat, rye, oats, or barley (I breastfeed) my daughter reacts
withing 24 hours. Thanks for any thoughts you may have!
