I agree. I did not make the Diagnosis of Sprue until I was 42 and I did have
secondary Hyperparathyroidism. We corrected the chemistries with diet and
Caicium but I also had to seek endocrinology help on my own and also had
multinodular goiter and required thyroid hormone. I also pushed for a bone
density(DXA) study and had areas in spine and hip 1.5 to 2 standard
deviations from normal(osteomalacia), ie 2-4 times the risk of fractures. My
doctor feels we have corrected  the Sprue and measureable hormone
abnormalities and we should be able to build bone with extra Ca++ and vitamin
D. We will repeat the DXA nest year to make sure we are progressing and
continue or consider a new therapy like Fosamex.
 
In short I agree the adult celiacs may benefit from bone density studies.
