Earlier this year, my GI and I suspected Celiac Disease and/or Lactose
Intolerance. Biopsy showed no evidence of CD, but a hydrogen test confirmed
Lactose Intolerance.
I am writing to this group because I have not been able to find a
comparable resource for Lactose Intolerance and I have learned that many
with CD are also Lactose Intolerant.
Prior to my diagnosis I experienced indigestion, acid reflux, diarrhea and
flatulence. Going off lactose entirely has virtually eliminated these
problems, but I've found that even lactose reduced "Lactaid" yogurt eaten
with extra-strength "Lactaid" tablets causes indigestion. I tolerate 100%
lactose-free "Lactaid" milk well.
Here are my questions:
Is it reasonable/common to become suddenly and apparently totally lactose
intolerant? (Age 52)
Does anyone know of a newsgroup or other resources/support groups for
lactose intolerants, like those for celiacs.
Thanks in advance for your help. Keep up the great work.
