Someone posted wondering if the increased prices of gluten-free foods
could be deducted only if you itemized.  YES.  If you take the
standard deduction or use the EZ or short forms, then you cannot deduct
medical expenses.  Also only the medical expenses that exceed 7.5%
of your income may be deducted.  Sometimes it makes sense to file taxes
separately (instead of married joint)--one person having high medical
expenses is often one of the few cases when this makes sense.
