This statement is not totally correct and may lead to some problems for new
celiacs.  Traditionally US celiacs, when they see the word distilled vinegar,
avoid it with a belief that it was made from wheat as the source grain.
Because of a lower cost, most distilled vinegar is in fact made from wheat.
This is not always the case, it can be made from corn.  Heinz does in fact use
distilled vinegar from corn in some of its US products.
 
In this case distilled vinegar would be GF, regardless of your thoughts on the
issue of distillation and the status of the final product.
 
In order to make up your own mind on the status of distilled products made from
wheat, you may desire to request the ISSUES file.  This is obtained by sending

If you desire to avoid the issue of distilled vinegar, then use some of the
vinegars from a GF source, mainly rice and wine vinegar.  This assumes that no
other flavorings are added to the final product.
 
The issue of the GF status of vinegar is one of the toughest subjects to
resolve in the US.  We all have our own reasons and examples for using or
avoiding distilled vinegar.
