Hi again All

I used to do a lot of report writing using SAS in various ways to pull

and present data. This was while I could officially see and probably

needed to be more assertive about the words "reasonable accommodations.

I kind of stopped trying to write code when I started needing a screen

reader, but I am still very interested in the same topics as when I was

working moredirectly in the field.

SAS has long history of statistical packages running on LOTS of

platforms and is often used also in academic and research environments.

So I think working on accessibility with them would be HUGELY rewarding

and important. But based on the kinds of things I deal with now around

data presentation, visualization, analysis, there are also some hard

challenges.

The other point SAS is a great company with lots of contracts in

government, medical, pharmaceutical, banking industries. So making a

difference about accessibility at SAS would have huge ripples.

But what if one does not want to move to Cary NC or one would hesitate?

SAS has LOTS of local offices and I would encourage anuyone involved

with education or referrals related to jobs and technology to reach out

to SAS both to see whetehr there might be local connections and to

have open channels about how important this work is.

There. Enough soapbox for this morning.

Dorene Cornwell..

Subject: Re: [VICUG-L] [Jobs] open position at SAS? Hi Peter and All

Thank you so much for forwarding this message.

Here is the main corporate website for SAS. I did not poke around to see

how well it behaves but it really is a COOL company if anyone knows

someone interested in data and analytics.

I used to work with SAS products before I lost too much vision so in

some ways I would be thrilled to work in this job. In ohter ways, what

they are asking for is huge and not straight forward.

But I am going to email anyway and would encourage others who know

people who might have the right expertise to think about also emailing.
