Hi Tom,

I also use RTTY and I used to run my carrier level higher before I had 
the ALC mod done as it increased the talk power of the 590, but now I 
can back the carrier level back down and the rig runs GREAT!  Now I know 
that the carrier level should have nothing to do with SSB, but it does 
effect the ALC readings that you get from a particular setting of the 
mike gain in SSB mode.
