there is an old term, you can't put lipstick on a pig.
If the ts2000's internal tuner won't tune an antenna, then you really have a 
problem with the antenna being resonant or even close on that frequency.
Sticking a bigger tuner in line isn't going to make the antenna work any 
better at all.
Just because you get the swr on the radio end down to 1 to 1, doesn't 
suddenly make the antenna work on a band where it won't tune.
If you are using a vertical, you should be able to tune it down to something 
less than 3 to 1 on the bands it is designed for and let the ts2000 internal 
tuner deal with it.
Using a tuner to get the radio to see a 1 to 1 swr on bands the antenna 
isnt' designed for is totally ineffective and you might as well just not 
bother as you get the same result anyway.
Transmitting into a 6 to 1 swr will get you about the same performance as 
tuning that 6 to 1 swr down to 1 with a tuner and fooling the radio .  The 
end result is you get little RF to the antenna, and when it does get there, 
the antenna doesn't resonate anyway so most of it goes back into the ground.
But you can do what you want.  The 998 does work with the ts2000 and is a 
good choice if you want to go that way.
