Ron, your using the quarter inch jack on the back of the rig?  That is for a padel and using the internal keyer in the rig.  The small jack along side of that jack is for a straight ke,  a bug or an external keyer.  If by chance your padel has a small  jack, using the wrong adapter could do what may be the problem.
