I have a "netbook" (small laptop) on which I cloned the original hard
drive to an SSD, which I swapped in in its place. The netbook came with
"Windows 7 Starter" pre-installed -- I've never seen this version on any
other machine and one possibility is that I'm running into an OS
quirk...

What I notice is that if I leave the machine unplugged for more than a
day or two, it seems to have trouble finding some of the driver files
needed in order to boot.
I thought that SSDs were basically big flash drives, but maybe it's
more complicated than that. None of my USB flash drives has ever, to my
knowledge, lost bits because it wasn't connected to power for a few
weeks. None of my rotating hard drives either, for that matter....
