Hmmm, this is what I do for excel 2010

Go to the first cell of your row of titles
You could highlight the entire row but I have found it is not necessary.
Once on the first cell of the row of titles do an Hmmm, now I am using windows 7...
So I do an alt M then M again then hit enter.
Now I put in the word Titles with a cap on the first letter. You can use any word. I use Titles so if I have to delete this I will always know what it is.
Hit enter and you are done.

Now your title Rows will be spoken as you move across your spreadsheet.

You can do the same for columns Here you will need to highlight the column do the alt M, M, enter and type in rowtitle cap on the R

Give it a go and see how it works for windows 8.1. It may be the keystrokes may be a bit different but since they are similar from Office 2007 to 2010 I am hopeing they will be similar to Office 2013. Also, there may be differences due to Windows 8.1...

Subject: [VICUG-L] Jaws and Row/Column Titles in Excel

Hi All,

How do you get Jaws to remember row and column titles?

I'm recording student grades in an Excel spreadsheet. I've selected the
top row and the first column and used the Jaws command for setting
column and row titles, Jaws+alt+ctrl+c and Jaws+alt+ctrl+r respectively.

This works in that I can arrow around, and as I do, I hear the row and
column titles--in this case, the name of the student and the particular
assignment (John Smith, Essay 1).

the problem is that, when I use alt+tab to move to another program, like
to Windows Explorer to make sure I didn't put an assignment in the wrong
folder, Jaws no longer gives me row and column titles when I return to
Excel. I need to select and reset both all over again. I've been working
on this for about two hours with frequent uses of the alt+tab, and only
once have I not had to reset row and column titles.

Is there a trick I'm missing?

I'm using Windows 8.1, Jaws 15, and Excel 2013. As I'm doing this, I'm
remember that I've had this problem before though I think I didn't have
to reset titles as often.

Ciao
