a Mag loop is a shielded loop designed to eliminate certain kinds of electrical field noise (that onerous power line singing for instance). These loops are generally less than a quarter wave in circumference
. They are highly directional and, considering their small size, pretty efficient. There are several good examples in the ARRL Antenna Handbook, but no text descriptions. This makes it rather hard to be able to build one. I used to build a lot of antennas back before I went totally blind, but find it a lot harder now. SOme designs are easy for me and others are almost impossible without a good text description of the mechanics (or even having the thing in hand just to see how its set up).
Anyway, thats my take on magnetic loops.

A properly constructed and tuned magloop will have a very high Q factor. THis means that it will reject a lot of noise outside its tuned bandwidth. These loops are also fairly small compared to other units. For example:
A loop for 160 Meters can be as short as 96 feet in circumference. THis means that it will only occupy a n area some 28 feet vertically and the same horizontally
