Silverlight is a kind of media player. Some sites use it to play their
content. It usually runs in the background when necessary, and stays out
of the way otherwise. Just leave it alone and it won't bother you.

Subject: [MARKETING] [VICUG-L] microsoft silverlight

Thought I was downloading microsoft security essentials but it looks
like I got something called microsoft silverlight. What is it and can I
get rid of it? I can't find essentials on my computer so when I saw
silverlight I went back and tried again and it said it already existed.
Confused. And do you know what the filename is?
Dory
