Hey, all:

I've been following a thread on the TS590 e-mail list regarding
recommendations of external speakers for the TS590, and I have to tell you,
the more I read, the more I get confused.

There are some speakers out there that range in cost from $130 to $170 that
the owners absolutely swear by, but it seems that for every ringing
endorsement, someone has an opposite story of failure and other horrible
things that happened when said speakers were purchased.

So, I'm coming here to where I know there will be differing opinions, but
maybe a bit more rationality.

Right now, I'm using one of those old 4-inch square metal Motorola speakers
with my TS590, that I picked up at a swap for about $5, ant it is much
better than the internal rig speaker. However, It does seem to have a lot
of highs in it, and, even though it's great for CW listening, it leaves a
bit to be desired for SSB listening. Quite simply, the low's just aren't
there.

I once acquired, ffree of charge, one of those amplified Realistic 20-2040
amplified speakres, and although the speaker sounded much better, I soon
learned very quickly why it was just given to me. Basically, any extra RF
that my station generated when tramsmitting, was immediately re-transmitted
in amplified form, leading me to believe that there was no filtering in the
thing whatsoever.

So, my search for a good external speaker for the TS590 goes on. However,
as I'm sure you can understand, I don't want to drop lots of money on a
speaker without truly knowing whether it will be a significant improvement
from what I currently have.

I'd be interested in what others are using. In particular, I'd be
interested in anyone's experience with some of the speakers that have been
suggested on the TS590 list. These include the MFJ Clear Tone, and the
Stone Mountain Digital Speaker.
