Steve,  The tones are the same.  I am going to need to forget about the
receive one I guess.  It just seemed interesting that the 2000 allows you to
have both turned on at the same time but the 480 doesn't.  Now it has been
pointed out to me that if I use the PC controls for the 480 I might be able
to do something different.  I don't believe that but there are functions, I
am told, that are available for the 2000 through the software interface that
aren't from the front panel.  It may be true for the 480 also.

At any rate, this has certainly started more discussion than I expected.  I
must also say that I have learned a great deal from the discussion and that
is why I started it.

I'm pretty sure the 480 transmits the tone, but the catch is that the PL and
CTCSS tones have to be the same.  Bottom line: if your repeater is using a
different tone to activate your receiver than the one it requires you to
transmit, you're out of luck.  The simplest solution is to ignore the
receive (CTCSS) tone.
