Harry,

Since this device measures the R F voltage on the feed line, I still think 
this could be used to tune older tube type transmitters like the Heath 
HW-101 that are connected to a resonant antenna.

Note: you must use an antenna with a low S W R with your transmitter if not 
using a tuner.

Long wires and antennas like the G5RV without a tuner on these transmitters 
would not work.

As long as the antenna connected to your vintage transmitter was resonant 
the ATOM should work to tune your transmitter for maximum output.
