your pretty lucky where you are john.
The ability to have outdoor antennas, and antennas that actually work well, 
or better than say a small mobile antenna, makes having an HF station 
worthwhile.
I know, mobile antennas can work OK on balconies or set up in the living 
room, but a G5RV is going to cut the mustard allot better than one of those 
little verticals.
I would say the vast majority of people, hams, who live in apartments don't 
have that ability to put up wires or verticals outside.
