The OCR apps are difficult, because they are designed for sighted folks, who can position the text that they want to scan in the view finder. At this time, there is nothing like the KNFB reader for the iPhone. There is an OCR app called Prismo, which some blind people have had some success with. The bar code reader app is called Digit Eyes. I have it, but have had little success with it because you have to know where on the package, the bar code is located.

Subject: [VICUG-L] question about the i phone

    Hi all,

I know that I mentioned on the list that I wanted to look into the cost of an i phone etc and I just haven't gotten around to doing that since I have been so ill lately. I did want to know though from anyone who has an i phone how well from your experience do the apps work. I mean like the color identifier and the one that I think is called say text in particular. I think the say text one is the one that you can put on packages of food and it will read the directions.

If anyone can give me any input I would really appreciate it. Thanks very much in advance.

Lisa
