    Bob:

No problem, and don't worry about throwing cold water on my solution.

The strange thing here is that we tried both WPA1 and WPA2, and could not
get either to work with this Windows XP machine.

If it helps, the computer is a Dell Lattitude 610 from Ferris state
University, which I use here at home with a docking station.

I eventually want to get a new deskktop )probably a Windows 7 machine), but
this is the computer I will have to use for the time being, until the budget
allows for a new computer purchase.

I worried about WEP being less secure, too, so will re-check the WPA1 and
WPA2 possibilities again, just to be sure I haven't missed anything.

Thanks, and 73 from Tom Behler: KB8TYJ

Tom,

I don't want to throw cold water on your solution, but W E P is not as
secure as W P A. There are two versions of W P A, 1 and 2. Version 1 of W
P A should work with xp as well as newer versions of Windows. Version 2
works with Vista and Windows 7.
