Greetings--

When I had similar (though not identical) problems with a flash drive, it appeared to be  due to the fact that I had put it into a computer that had several partititions on its hard disk, several network shares mapped by  a logon script, two card readers built into an inkjet printer, and a combination floppy drive/card reader. The hardware and mapped shares appeared 'unwilling' to 'move' to a different letter to accommodate the flash drive. The way in which I finally was able to resolve this issue was to use the Computer Management Console (right-click My Computer, then left-click Manage, left-click Storage, then left-click Disk Management) to assign 'later' drive letters in the alphabet to the floppy card reader slots, the optical drive, or, possibly, to a hard disk [not your system drive]. It seemed that the flash drive would "only look so far" for the "next available drive letter", then "give up". Be aware that, if you've installed programs to a partitition that's not the system partitition, you may have to reinstall them, in order for the program(s) to have the paths it/they need(s) to operate.

I apologize if this appears too convoluted and technical, and wish you well resolving your problem.

Subject: [PCBUILD] Encrypted flash drive

I have a Kingston Datatraveler encrypted flash drive.  It works fine on most computers.  Plug it in and the Privacy Vault screen pops up (sometimes...sometimes you need to run the executable, but that's not really the problem), you enter your password and you're good to go.  What you see then is the Kingston device and the next lettered drive with the files on the flash drive.

In one computer when the password is entered, it says it's looking for a specific letter drive, but it can't find it and you should insert the disc/drive.  I think it's that next lettered drive it's looking for, but since the flash drive is already in the USB port, there's nothing more to insert.

Thoughts or ideas to get this one computer to recognize the drive?  It's not just me.  Several people with the same drive are having similar problems.

Thanks,

Ralph
