Greetings--

The "key" here, it seems to me, is that your motherboard has built in audio.
You may need the correct chipset and/or audio driver(s) for this
motherboard.

For audio you might want to try the following link:

http://www.soundcard-drivers.com/drivers/139/139021.htm

Information present indicates a VIA chipset, so the correct drivers for this
should also be present, if you install this driver set.

HTH and good luck.

Subject: [PCBUILD] New Guy Needs Help Please - Missing Drivers

This was addressed to the wrong group, but still applies to all who lend a
helping hand. You guys are great when it comes to getting quick answers that
seem to be out of the reach of the rest of us. Thanks for all your
unacknowledged answers even though we really mean to thank you.

With that being said, I am having a time at solving this one. I did a CLEAN
install (all the way to re-partitioning the HD) and I have no sound. I have
searched for the problem all over in many places in device manager, and have
seemed to come across the PC is not seeing my sound device. I didn't change
a thing but the OS.
I saved all the files I wanted (pics and bmps), and had sound before the
re-install of XP.

Mine is a generic build of an AMD 1.3Ghz Duron, ECS K7VMM+ sd/drr - w/net
and Sound vid, AMD Duron  1.3G/Socket A CPU Cooler K7 Socket A Minit Tower
ATX Generic Petel 56K V .90pci INT Modem
496 MB PC2100 (ram)
manhattan PS2 Scroll mouse
True touch 104 Key PS2
TDK CD-R (replacing a Sony 52X CDROM int IDE) Maxtor 30G HD Mitsumi 3.5
Floppy Disc Drive AOC 17" SVGA Monitor .27"
G SubWoofer Speaker System
( This is from the original build dated in 2003
  I know it is ancient.)
Everything was working fine before, albeit alittle slow, and I just wanted
to clean out stuff that I wasn't using so I did a clean install.

I think I had this problem last time I HAD to do a re-install, as the SYSTEM
SPEAKERS have no driver and this sounds familiar. I just can't remember how
I fixed the problem several years ago.

I need to know:
how to find the problem, or the missing driver.
I also would need to know:
if I can just replace the sound card.
I have gone to the various websites to seek out answers and there seems to
be either too many choices or solutions or not enough. One site has too many
choices to "hunt and pick" from. I have gone to the download side of MS and
the mother manufacturer and got lost several times. I have tried google ing
some and will continue today and tomorrow until I find the answer. Please
help me out.

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated and tried. I just need to be to hear
my sound productions on my PC like, or better than, before my most recent
install of Windows XP home.
