I wondered if telling the iPad to "forget" my network, and then
re-learn it, would help, and so I took Eric's suggestion and tried it.
It worked!
I have to assume that somehow the iPad's stored key for the network
had gotten corrupted, and this gave me the opportunity to re-enter it.

If I may suggest: Try rebooting the iPad first. If that does not work,
go into settings/wifi and make the iPad "forget" your home network.
After "forgetting" it, have it find it again. At this point it should
ask for the network key and *should* work again. We have 4 iDevices in
our home and all connect via WiFi. Two of them, an iPhone and an iPod
keep having this issue and one of the two options above always resolves
it.
