I've tried Open Office several times with different versions of Open
Office, JFW, Java and the Java Access Bridge, and I've never found it to
be nearly as usable as MS Office. The word processor is probably usable
though. I don't think I've tried a recent combination since JFW 9 came
out though, and since everything is free, I'd suggest getting the most
recent versions of Open Office, Java and the Java Access Bridge and
checking it out for yourself. I'll probably do this again myself in the
not too distant future. It is probably worth pointing out that since I
have a copy of MS Office, I'm sure I'm not as persistent in getting Open
Office to work satisfactorily as I would if I didn't already have MS
Office. If you do play around with it, let us know how it goes.
Especially if you find any tricks to make it more usable.
Another option, which you may want to try, is IBM Lotus Symphony. This
is a free office suite. It isn't as feature rich as MS Office, but I
find it more accessible than Open Office, and I often don't miss the
features that MS Office has that it's lacking. You can download it and
get more information on it at
