I received over 30 emails about pets and gluten. Some people thanked me for
this information. Some people told me that their dogs and cats are GF. Some
told me how much healthier their pets were GF. Stories included a couple
arthritic dogs who were helped, a dog who became allergy free, a diabetic
cat that no longer needed insulin, a dog that became seizure free and a dog
that almost died. There were two other dogs who are choking when drinking
water. One is better and the other has an owner who will look into a GF
diet.

There were a few who mentioned John B. Symes, D.V.M, aka DogtorJ
http://www.dogtorj.net/index.html John is gluten intolerant and recommends
that out pets need to be grain free and dairy free. He has written articles
for www.celiac.com and the Scott Free Newsletter

I am using Nutro Natural Choice Small Bites Lamb Meal & Rice Formula
http://www.nutroproducts.com/ncdry-lrsb.shtml I chose this product because
it was not involved in any recall, rice was the only grain used and I could
get it quickly. I had only one week to put my dog on a GF trial while my
husband was gone. I have no financial interest in this company.

One person has her dog on Hills Prescription Allergen- Free ZD
www.hillspet.com

Two people recommended http://www.royalcanin.us/ Royal Canine

Some people asked about dog biscuits. All the biscuits I have seen are held
together by grains. I am trying to cut out as much grain as possible. Her
treat in the morning is a small hamburger. We buy a few pounds, make small
patties and freeze. We tried chicken, but she does not like that as much as
the hamburger.

One person mentioned there is wheat in some heartworm pills. I will have to
check those ingredients.

A few people mentioned the raw meat diet. I will look into that. Here is one
site with prepared raw food for pets.
http://www.primalpetfoods.com/index.htm I do not know anything about their
product. Has anyone used this?

It was mentioned that some breeds of dogs may be more inclined to wheat
sensitivity. From what I understand, Irish Setters and Wheaten Terriers are
two of these breeds. I had an Irish Setter as a child and the poor thing had
terrible diarrhea and gas. Makes me wonder.
