If you live in the Philadelphia area, or you have a friend or
relative in the area that would like to know more about celiac, there
is a wonderful event coming up to attend on Saturday June 23. The
National Foundation for Celiac Awareness is sponsoring a Gluten-Free
Cooking Spree. Chefs from the area will be paired with a doctor and
also a person from the media, and they must create a gluten free
dish, which will be judged by a panel. The purpose is to help
educate and raise awareness among doctors, chefs, and the media as to
how wonderful GF dishes can be and also to help them understand
celiac disease. I have attended this event in both New York and
Washington, DC and it was so much fun. You get to watch the teams
cooking, and there is plenty of gluten free food to taste throughout
the evening. It is a wonderful chance to meet other celiacs and have
a full evening of eating without worrying about what you are eating,
but instead learning new ideas and meeting new people. CNN anchor,
Heidi Collins, also a celiac and the National Spokesperson for NFCA
will be the master of ceremonies. You can find information at http://
www.celiaccentral.org/Events/Gluten_Free_Cooking_Sprees/331/ . This
will give you information on the upcoming event in Philadelphia, and
also there are pictures and recipes from the New York and DC events.
I had a chance this past week to visit one of the restaurants in DC
of one of the participating chefs, and my celiac daughter and myself
had the most fantastic gourmet dinner without a single problem from
appetizer to dessert!! It was such a treat!!!
So if you are in the Philadelphia area on June 23, this is a very
worthwhile event to attend.
Good health and happy eating to everyone.
